linda so joins us live to tell us how that doctor is doing this morning and what happened. linda, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, megan. the good news is the doctor is expected to survive. he spent the day in surgery and came out late last night and remains in stable condition here at hopkins. it was a chaotic scene as it unfolded on the eighth floor of the nelson building. police say 50-year-old paul pardus pulled out a gun and shot the doctor in the stomach. he became distraught as he was being briefed on his mother's condition. he believed the doctors had failed his mother and shot the doctor, shot his mother in the head then turned the gun on himself. it caught a lot of people offguard. >> it's scary knowing someone is on the outside on a rampage with a gun in the hospital where we are supposed to be protected. >> reporter: a metal detector might have prevented him from bringing that gun into the building but there are more than 80 entrances on the sprawling campus and to have a detector at every door is near impossible, still they will review security procedur
